From the initial discovery of the Hall’s problems last year, it’s been clear the History Room was the worst affected part of the building, with rot along the full length of the beams.

Failed, rotten joists and floorboards, and live rot
A volunteer team cleared out the last of the ruined floor at the end of August.

Before and after
The work now required to get the History Room back to being usable room involves:
- New modern truss joists
- New dampproof membrane, chipboard floor, possibly including a heat mat
- Drilling appropriate ventilation to ensure the damp doesn’t return
Based on early quotes this work can be completed for around £2000, so we’re setting this as our first fundraising target!

After those works are complete, the History Room will be available to use once again for activities and meetings, and this can be a springboard for work to progress on other areas of the Hall!
Read more about the long-term plan here. We hope to soon share a more detailed timeline for the proposed works, but the work on the History Room is the crucial first step, so if you can, please…
