Milton Abbot Village Hall needs your help!

The Plan

Here’s an overview of the new committee’s plan to get Milton Abbot Village Hall back up and running, and better than ever! We’ll provide more detail as things develop and as we hit fundraising goals, but please get in touch if you have any questions or can help in any way.

  1. Stop water ingress
Improvements to the pitch and level of the ground in front of the hall, the roofing and drainage, and the direction of the wheelchair ramp, to avoid water gathering under the building.
  2. The History Room
Constructing a new floor and ventilating to avoid a return of the damp. Other small improvements to the room to make it more usable.
This is our first big project, learn more here and please donate here!
  3. The Kitchen
Replacing the rotten floor here will be the perfect time for a full rethink and refurbishment, to make the kitchen more useful to the Hall in the future. The committee has begun obtaining quotes from local fitters.
  4. Vestibule floor
A lot of the water ingress is taking place underneath underneath where you first enter the Hall through its main door – rot has spread from here to the other areas, like the stage end of the main hall and the reading room. This floor will need to be taken out and replaced.
  5. Main Hall
The stage end of the 1920s hall has rotten floorboards and joists, spreading from where the water enters around the vestibule. These will need replacing also.
  6. Reading Room
Another big project – the floor needs replacing, the newly exposed wall (where rotten panels were removed) needs treating, and proper ventilation introduced. There are many options now that the original room (some of which was hidden behind the non-breathing plasterboard added at some point) has been revealed. The hope is to connect the History Room and Reading Room via a passageway at the back of the building, protecting the existing wall, improving the versatility of these spaces, and incorporating a fire exit. It would also allow the kitchen to be kept separate and no longer a thoroughfare.
  7. Basement – improving ventilation, lowering the floor to make for a more usable storage space.
  8. Extras – cosmetic improvements to the inside of the Hall, etc.
