Milton Abbot Village Hall needs your help!

Open Day report

Thank you to everyone from the village and beyond who came along and showed their support at our Open Day on Saturday. The committee plans to put on more events like this in 2025 to keep the village updated and keep raising funds. Please consider a donation via our Crowdfunder.

The doors to Milton Abbot village hall were thrown open last Saturday (30th November) to welcome locals and visitors alike to see the ambitious plans for the much loved building.

Tables groaned under the weight of home-made cakes, children were treated to gifts and everyone present was invited to try out an alpine horn. Visitors included the Mayor of West Devon Borough Council, Debo Sellis and the Deputy Mayor of Tavistock Town Council, Steve Hipsey.

The listed building, originally constructed for use as a National School in 1848, has been blighted by dry and wet rot. Visitors were shown around to see the work that has been carried out so far by volunteers along with the plans for the renovation and exciting possibilities opening up for the hall.

Jonathan Watson, the Chair of the hall committee explained “There’s a lot of expensive work to do, but we have a strong vision for the future of the hall led by the recent residents’ survey. We aim to have a busy local venue for entertainment and classes whilst also providing support such as a community fridge, IT training and even refreshments and possible bunkhouse for walkers.”
